Heartland to host FREE Speed Career Coaching event

I would like to invite you to a unique and free opportunity through Heartland Community College’s Workforce Services department.

“Speed Career Coaching” from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 15^th will give participants quick help seeking new jobs in the midst of the economic crisis and lay-offs. The event is based on the speed dating concept, and will offer five-minute sessions with local experts who can review participants’ résumés and cover letters.

The one-on-one sessions will last from 6-7 p.m. and then group sessions will follow with experts addressing job searching, networking and interviewing. Marty Vanags from the McLean County Economic Development Council will speak specifically about how social networking can play a role in how you can connect to new opportunities.

Please pass this along to anyone you know who is looking to improve their chances of landing a job or making a career change. The event is free and open to the public. Fire at Lexington church

A lighted cross was damaged in a small fire inside a Lexington church Wednesday.

Lexington fire crews were called to Church of Christ Uniting, 108 N. Pine St., around 8:25 a.m., according to McLean County’s Metcom emergency dispatch center.

The fire was called in by staff after the lighted cross had began to short out, said church secretary Carol Charlson. Staff turned the lights off, and no other structures inside the church were damaged, she said.

Lexington fire crews have cleared the scene.

Lexington High School honors 2009 graduates

LEXINGTON -- Lexington High School held its graduation ceremony on May 29, 2009, in the high school gym.

Valedictorian was Jonica Esther Klein. Salutatorian was Allison Rose Brown.
