GOODave (10/31/2009) [quote][b] But, we should be cutting spending NOW. Reduce the deficit NOW.
I while back I would have agreed, but I have studied what happened during the depression. Hoover cut spending and tried to cut the deficit. It kept getting worse until he left office.
We should have cut spending over the past 8 years and should spend now - according to what economists say. But this is all academic, IMO, because of the Federal Reserve. Every dollar is created with debt attached to it. Plus, the purpose of the Fed was to prevent Depression and control booms. The Fed was created in 1913. Obviously it didn't work.

I agree Hoover was unsuccessful in his effort because he tried to just cut GOV'T spending and the population fell in line with him.
it is the population, IMO, who should be spending ... but the Gov't should be pulling back. Particularly now when, as you point out, the dollars created by the fed have no ba#####, are intrinsically tied to debt, and are just flooding the marketplace with dollars, thus, de-valuing each one.
The way it should work now is the Gov't cuts back which forces the population to spend to get the same level of service.
Now that he's president, if you question his tax policies, energy plans or health-care ambitions, you are “hoping he will fail” — and that, with the help of roundabout reasoning, is tantamount to hoping we cannot transcend race. -Jonah Goldberg, 8/20/09

You might be right. Let me know when you come across one.

MPH (10/29/2009) So, I guess you're not interested in giving me your thoughts?
Easy there slappy. Some people have lives outside of this little forum.
But, I'd be interested to hear how you think he did.
I never stated my beliefs on the matter. I have heard the argument though that the foundation was laid by Reagan for the current economic crisis, primarily through his funding, arming, and development of what he termed, "Freedom Fighters" in Afghanistan.
Some also say that mindless dimwit mouthbreathers who follow their messiah Reagan are really missing the big picture.
Why is it so difficult for you to have a respectful debate without resorting to immature name calling? I responded respectfully and asked a simple question, only to be demeaned for (apparently) no other reason than the fact that I thought Reagan was a good president and did some good things to reverse some not so good economic conditions.
Sorry I asked.

Lost me there. What are you talking about?

Who demeaned you and how?

You're first what? You're a bright boy, you can figure it out.
BTW, that "who, ME?" act gets tired after awhile.

Only someone as angry and hate-filled as you are would see "you're a bright boy" as an insult.
