Community Players proudly announces their exciting new season of shows. Consisting of five regular season shows, one laboratory show, and the Theater for Young People production, the 2010 – 2011 lineup is sure to bring season-long, reasonably priced entertainment to the citizens of the Bloomington-Normal area.

The 88th season opens with the first of the additional shows (not part of the season ticket), the Theater for Young People production, Fantastic Mr. Fox. This charming play centers around what happens when Mr. Fox steals one chicken too many from a local farm, and the farmers decide to rid themselves of him by any means possible. Outwitted at every turn, the farmers’ ploy backfires, much to the delight of all the animals. Performance dates are July 9 - 11, 15 – 18, & 22 – 25, 2010.

The first show of the regular season, Smokey Joe’s Café, is the longest-running musical revue in Broadway history. Showcasing rock & roll, pop, and rhythm & blues standards written by the influential songwriters Leiber and Stoller, this audience favorite features such classics as “Stand By Me”, “Yakety Yak”, “Jailhouse Rock” and “On Broadway!” Performance dates are September 10-12, 16-19, & 23-26, 2010.

October brings about the first drama of the season, Dracula. Adapted from the novel by Bram Stoker, this stage adaptation served as the basis for the horror film classic starring Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula. Written in 1923 with the blessing of Stoker’s widow, this critically acclaimed version presents the classic Dracula we know so well today. Performance dates are Oct 29 – 31, Nov 4-7, & 11-13, 2010.

The second extra show, also not part of the season ticket, is the laboratory production, “Art”. This dramatic comedy concerns three long-time friends, Serge, Marc, and Yvan and raises questions about art and friendship. Serge, indulging his penchant for modern art, buys a large, expensive, and completely white painting. Marc is horrified, and their friendship suffers considerable strain as a result, while Yvan, is caught in the middle. “Art” is the winner of the 1998 Tony and New York Drama Critic’s Circle Awards for Best Play. Performances are November 18-21, 2010.

The first show of 2011, John Loves Mary, is a Comedy by Norman Krasna. After World War II, John takes the idea of helping a pal in the Army way too far, marrying his buddy’s girl so that he can bring her to the U.S. as a surprise for his friend. He then plans to divorce her and marry his real fiancée, Mary. Things don’t work out at all as planned in this hilarious farce. Performance dates are January 14-16, 20-23, & 27-29, 2011.

In a hilarious satire from the golden age of American comedy, The Solid Gold Cadillac is the story of how one little old lady took on the corporate machine. Made into a 1956 film featuring Judy Holliday and co-written by Pulitzer-Prize winner George S. Kaufmann, this show remains as timely as when it premiered on Broadway in 1953. Performance dates are Feb 25-27, March 3-6, & 10-12, 2011.

Closing the season is the mega-hit, Titanic: The Musical. Set on the ocean liner RMS Titanic, which sank on its maiden voyage on April 14, 1912, this musical tells the fictional account of the actual passengers and crew of the ill-fated ship. The winner of five Tony Awards in 1997, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, Titanic is sure to be an audience favorite. Performance dates are May 6-8, 12-15, & 19-22, 2011.
